Albert C. Mailhiot was born in New York City on August 2, 1934 and was a long time visitor and resident of Udon Thani. He passed away on November 22, 2011. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 10249. He is survived by his wife, 2 sisters, 3 sons, and a step-daughter.

Al was stationed at the local airbase in 1973 when he met Thongdee Comhongsa who was employed at the base. They became friends and communicated with each other after Al returned to the US and left the military. He went to work for Honeywell Corporation as an electrical engineer who worked on sensitive electronics in military settings.

They decided to marry and Thongdee went to the US in April 1975. They were married near Boston on June 7, 1975. He was 40 and she was 37. They lived in many places as Al's work took him to different US and foreign military installations around the world. Besides many locations in the US they also lived in Japan, Mexico, and Germany. 

In 1993 Thongdee returned to Udon Thani to prepared for Al's retirement in 1995. She bought land and had their current home near Nong Prajak Park built. They lived there during their time in Udon.

Al was cremated on 26 Nov 2011 at Wat Pa Non Niwet, Udonthani.
